My writers' retreats are designed for writers to indulge your love of writing far away from the stresses of your everyday routine, to be inspired by the tranquil setting around you and to have absolutely nothing to do but write, be pampered and learn new writing and author branding skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Retreat packages include:
- accommodation. Private suites and ensuites for every guest in beautiful homesteads.
- all meals. Did you know I love cooking as much as I love writing?
- a sixty minute one-on-one critique session with me.
- prior to the retreat, I will read and annotate twenty pages of your manuscript as well as your full synopsis in preparation for our session.
- workshops on writing craft and author branding run by me.
- group outings. These will be casual afternoon visits to local scenic spots and tourist shopping strips. No outings will be organised in advance so that we can be spontaneous.
I won't be running a retreat in 2020 as I take a year's break from writing and teaching but if you'd like to be one of the first to know when my next writers' retreat will be, you can get on my waiting list by emailing me at tess@tesswoods.com.au
Writers of general commercial fiction and romance genres from anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. Writers of other genres are also welcome, but my experience is only as a commercial fiction writer so if that’s cool with you, it’s cool with me!

Perth Writing Retreat - December 2019
This retreat was held just a five minute drive my home on Perth's stunning north shore. I accepted only three writers for this time instead of six like my past retreats because I wanted to spend more individual time with each writer. This smaller retreat was wonderful - we workshopped story ideas, the writers who came had many hours each day of quiet writing time, and being the first summer retreat I ran, we loved spending time in the pool/spa area and being right on the beach! We also enjoyed a special Christmas dinner with dishes from my native Egypt with some of Perth's best-selling authors who came to inspire the writers with their stories of success.
Busselton Writing Retreat - July 2018.
My second retreat on the shores of the beautiful Geographe Bay was a wonderful success with all six writers loving the experience.
The writers who came all worked hard on their manuscripts individually and we came together for daily workshops too. We explored the surrounding wine region and coast, we all had fun at the local Deja Moo cow-themed festival and we had movie night, out for dinner night, games night and a crafternoon!

Wales Writing Retreat - December 2017.
My first writing retreat was an amazing success! Tucked away in the stunning coastal village of Criccieth in North West Wales, six Australian writers joined me for a week of inspiration and collaboration. We enjoyed the snow, the warm fireside chats, exploring the gorgeous scenery around us, the quiet hours writing, and we made friends for life.
